Android copied Java code

In the words of an expert on intellectual property code of the Android operating system in 43 cases coincides with the Java language. Florian Mueller, the author of this discovery, at its Android survey found 6 files that are nearly identical to the Java files and are found in versions Froyo and Gingerbread. In addition, Mueller points to 37 files in the Android code that include notices that say the code is proprietary to Sun. Mueller argues that though the files are not in the current Android code tree, they were used in the two versions that currently make up more than half of the Android phones in use.

Java app for Facebook

Company Facebook provides a new approach to their social network with new applications in Java intended for conventional less powerful phones. The new Java application should be compatible with more than 2,500 models of mobile phones and so comfortable to enjoy Facebook. During the first 90 days data used by the application will be without fee in some mobile operators. But sadly this option will not be available from any mobile operator in Slovakia.

New version of JBoss

It was recently released a new version of open source JBoss Application Server, which is now one of the first production-ready application servers able to fully support Java Enterprise Edition 6. Java EE 6 is the latest version of Java Platform, designed to build enterprise applications using the Java programming language and related tools. In an online survey, 26 percent of 1,000 developers indicated that they used JBoss. It ranks second place of the most popular application servers. With 33 percent Tomcat is at the first place.

The book should be a kind of trainer who will be with you 24 hours a day. It is written in a slightly different style than the traditional book, contains a series of short chapters with a minimum amount of theory but with instructional DVD and not miss the screencasts, which are for each lesson except the last one.

JVM Monitor 3.6.0

JVM Monitor 3.6.0 (alpha) is a Java profiler integrated with Eclipse and it is designed for monitoring CPU, threads and memory usage of Java apps. The advantage is that it runs without preparing any launch configuration beforehand. It can automatically locate running JVMs on a local host, and can monitor Java apps on a remote host through a hostname and port number. JVM Monitor is licensed under the Eclipse Public License v1.0.

Java merges JRockit and HotSpot

The Java Company has progressed in its plans to merge its two Java virtual machines (JVMs), to thereby provide a single microkernel for open source GlassFish project and commercial WebLogic application servers. According to Oracle vice president of development, initial releases from the merged JVM project will begin appearing in 2011. He also said that the plan of company is to converge all the JVMs into one VM, which should roughly take about three years. The intention is to use the best of each JVM as part of their convergence efforts.

Collaboration between Oracle and IBM

The companies Oracle and IBM decided to collaborate in the OpenJDK project in developing the open source Java environment. The aim of cooperation is to enable developers and customers to build on existing Java investments, to centre on the OpenJDK, the Java Language, the Java Development Kit (JDK) and Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Hasan Rizvi, senior vice president of Oracle, said that this relationship builds on the success of the OpenJDK as the primary development platform for Java Standard Edition.

Silence of the Java independence initiative

While Java founder James Gosling has campaigned for Oracle to place Java under the jurisdiction of an independent foundation, Oracle is declining to comment at all on the notion. During a press question-and-answer session at the Oracle OpenWorld conference in San Francisco, executive vice president of product development at Oracle, Thomas Kurian, refused to answer the question on the Gosling's efforts. Gosling has sought to hold Oracle's feet to the fire on an effort the company supported in 2007 to have the Java Community Process become an independent, vendor-neutral standards organization.

Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud is an integrated hardware and software system engineered, tested, and tuned by Oracle to run Java and non-Java applications. Building on the Oracle Exadata Database Machine, Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud combines 64-bit x86 processors, an InfiniBand-based I/O fabric and solid-state storage with the Oracle WebLogic Server, other enterprise Java Oracle middleware products and a choice of Oracle Solaris or Oracle Linux operating system software. The software has been tuned to exploit the I/O fabric in the Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud machine in order to deliver performance results 10x better than a standard application server configuration.

Mark Hurd is in talks with Oracle

According to a report in the wall Street Journal, Mark Hurd may work for Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. Last month, Hurd resigned unexpectedly from Hewlett-Packard and now he is in talks with Oracle. It's not clear what position he might take and this move could make a sense for Oracle.

JavaOne conference without Google

Google announces that the company won't be able to present at upcoming JavaOne conference. The conference is being held in San Francisco the week of September 19. Oracle, a sponsor of JavaOne conferece, is suing Google for patents and copyrights infringement related to Java and open source has made it impossible to freely share out thoughts about the future of Java and open source generally. It is really painful for Google, because they’ve participated in every JavaOne since 2004.

Oracle Fixes Eclipse's Java Problem

Oracle reacted swiftly to the issues involving the rebranding of the Java 6u21 update. Since then, Oracle have re-spun the Java install, and for Windows machines, the released build is now 1.6.0_21-b07; since the problem only affected Windows, the Solaris and Linux versions remain at 1.6.0_21-b06. Oracle should be commended for reacting to, and solving, the problem so quickly.

Apache FOP 1.0 released

On Wednesday, the Apache Foundation announced the release of Apache FOP 1.0, a project that has been a decade in the making. Apache FOP, or Formatting Objects Processor, started off its life in the XML project at Apache before moving (together with Batik, a Java-based SVG renderer) to the XMLGraphics project back in 2004.

NetBeans 6.9 Release Supports JavaFX

Oracle has released version 6.9 of its popular open-source Neteans IDE. This is also the first release of the IDE to be released under Oracle's stewardship. The new release has a couple guiding themes providing an umbrella for a raft of new features, as well as many improvements.
