Sold 300 million licences

Microsoft has announced that the number of sold licenses Windows 7 has reached the limit of 300 million pieces. It also announced the stunning financial results, which the company achieved in the last quarter of last year's revenues of $ 19,953 billion. Net income, however, does not exceed the record of company, which the company acquired a year ago and 6.66 billion dollars. Profit for last quarter was 6.63 billion dollars. Operating income and diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $8.17 billion and $0.77 per share, respectively.

Verification on Facebook

Facebook today released two new features to improve safety. The first is a way of confirming identity to users on the basis of recognition of friends in photos. Using a five series of photos for three, the user will have to choose from six names. Two series of photos the user can skip during the verification. The second is the introduction of support for access to Facebook via HTTPS only to prevent take-over session. This second new feature the user would be able to set in security settings in your account.

Development of protocol for P2P

Author of BitTorrent protocol is working to develop a new protocol for P2P video streaming. Bram Cohen has developed the protocol for distributing live video using Internet connections of users who watch video on its sending to other users. This new protocol should achieve significantly lower delay than its current competitors. Software for implementation of the protocol will have to be installed locally. The company plans to make downloads new software for P2P video streaming.

COMMStellation

COMMStellation latest project is a Canadian company Microsit Systems Canada. Its aim is to create a global network of 78 satellites designed to provide connectivity to the Internet data services respectively. Microsatellites should have a weight of 150 kg, to orbit the Earth at about one thousand kilometers. One satellite would provide data transmission at up to 12 Gbps, the intention of the project is to cover 100% of the Earth and communicate with 12 ground stations.

Sony will use browser Opera

The Japanese company Sony in their press conference revealed that it had decided to build a web browser in Bravia TVs and Blu-ray players on the Opera browser. Earlier this month the company has already unveiled a prototype of this browser and also its user interface. Browser should include support for standard Hybrid Broadband Broadcast TV, HbbTV, which allow TV operators via the Internet to allow access to the archive or other content.

Formula One 2011 in HD

The company Formula One Management has revealed that upcoming season of race F1 will be filmed and broadcast in HD (1080i). The output signal of international broadcasters will be provided in a compression standard MPEG-2 (42 Mbps). It will be coverage of all 20 rounds, including the qualifications, training and all related actions. Only exception will be footage from on-board cameras directly from single seaters. Slovak viewers will enjoy these images in high definition television channels on Nova and Slovenská Televízia.

24-hour test flight for IPv6

Yesterday was announced the planned first global-scale trial of the new Internet Protocol, IPv6. The participation in this test confirmed three of the four largest provider of Internet content, Google, Yahoo and Facebook, but also lesser-known networks Akamai and Limelight Networks distributing content to other relevant websites. “World IPv6 Day” to take place on June 8, 2011. The aim is to try to debug problems with deploying a complete end-to-end IPv6 service.

Light Peak - copper version

Intel Vice President David Perlmutter revealed that the first version of the technology Light Peak optical but will be based on copper. Light Peak interconnect technology is originally designed for optical communication between PCs, peripherals and consumer electronics. Intel figured out that copper works well, over their expectations and optics would be unnecessarily expensive. Further informed that their interconnecting technology is now ready for implementation, but gave no specific dates.

Skype to acquire Qik

Skype announced a definitive agreement on the acquisition of Qik, and to conclude the transaction should take place even in January 2011. Qik is a provider of video software and services for mobile phones. Qik software is available for more than 200 mobile phones running on Android, iOS, Symbian, BlackBerry OS and Windows Mobile. The company commented that this acquisition will help them to accelerate their leadership in the video by adding recording, sharing and storing capabilities to their product portfolio.

Nvidia is developing ARM processor

Company Nvidia is working to develop powerful ARM processor, which will be designed for personal computers, workstations, but also for servers and supercomputers. Implementation of the project with codenamed Denver, CEO and president Jen-Hsun Huang announced during the conference on Consumer Electronics Show CES 2011. In the official press release of the company states, " With Project Denver, we are designing a high-performing ARM CPU core in combination with our massively parallel GPU cores to create a new class of processor."

DDR4 from Samsung

The biggest manufacturer of memory modules in the world, Samsung Electronics Co., disclosed information about the first manufactured DDR4 memory standard. Effective frequency is 2133 MHz and it works only on 1.2 V. Memory module uses the technology of Pseudo Open Drain. This technology will enable to reduce consumption by 40 percent compared to1.5V DDR3 module. Company’s plan is working closely with many manufacturers of servers to ensure JEDEC standardization of DDR4 technologies in the second half of this year.

Available update for Avast

Even on the last day of year 2010 the company Avast Software released a new version 5.1 for its antivirus. Among the most notable improvements in the new version include improvements in the antirootkit engine, stability/performance in the Web Shield, the removal of malicious code, or in Behaviora Shield, and even boot-time scanner is now available in 64-bit versions of Windows. Minor improvements were made in the user interface and some corrections were also made in the firewall.

In mid-2009, lots of manufacturers of mobile phones undertook to use a common standard for charging mobile phones. At the initiative of the European Commission, organisations CEN-CENELEC and ETSI have started to prepare a standard for common mobile phone charger using micro-USB, which is now completed. Early next year would be expected to begin shipping the first phones compatible with this standard. The intention is to reduce the number of produced chargers and thus reducing the waste generated in their manufacture and disposal.

Commission for 65 million displays

According to DigiTimes, Apple next year, ordered to total 65 million displays for their internet Tablet iPad or its next generation. iPad sales began in April this year and yet the number of units sold is estimated at ten million. Allegedly order consists of 35 million displays from LG Display, 15 million from Chimei Innolux and the remaining 15 million from Samsung. Apple is probably very optimistic about the tablet PC market in 2011 because market estimates range from 45 to 48,000,000 units for the year.

A three-year research

The Institute for Nano Quantum Information Electronics at the University of Tokyo announced that it started a collaborative research on optical inter-chip connection technologies with Intel Corp in December 2010. Expectancy research is estimated at three years and its results will be published. In July, Intel has yet introduced prototypes of appropriate technology (for optical communication between chips) using hybrid silicon laser, demonstrated a solution but has not yet been integrated into conventional chips.

Better resolution of Kinect?

Based on information from an unspecified source, Microsoft is working to improve the accuracy of Xbox 360 motion-sensing add-on Kinect so that it could detect finger movement and hand rotation. To the Xbox is sending video with information of depth scenes with a resolution of 320 x 240 and 30 fps, although resolution of getting information is at 640 x 480 resolutions and refresh rate of 30 frames per second. This is mainly because of the reduction of transmitted and processed data. Improvement could result in recognition of some details, such as movement of the fingers or hand gestures.

MySQL 5.5 stable release

After a year of public testing since yesterday is the world's new stable version of the famous database server is MySQL 5.5, which, oppose to the previous version comes with new functions. That is semi-synchronous support replication, a compromise solution. The master completes transaction as successful then, as it at least one slave server acknowledge receipt of the transaction and save it to relay log. There are also used in the new version the latest version of the InnoDB engine, providing higher performance especially at high count concurrent connections to MySQL server.

Probably should end VGA standard in 2015, but also LVDS interfaces used in laptops to connect internal LCD panels in 2013. In addition to Intel's and AMD's intention to join the producers of displays, monitors and personal computers, Dell, Lenovo, Samsung Electronics and LG LCD display.

New acquisition

On Friday announced a further acquisition. Google bought the company Phonetic Arts. It deals with the development of computer technologies of synthesis, generation, human voice. Currently, Google synthesized speech to navigate in Google Maps and Google Translate Translate. Google believes that thanks to this acquisition, together they’ll move a little faster towards that Star Trek future.
